A Rain Free Summer Fayre for Wye!
Double click left to enlarge pictures.
The Wye Summer Fayre by all accounts was a great success. The weather was kind and people turned out for the event from every corner of Wye and around.
Dan Bishop (pictured above top left) worked hard putting out the Church chairs. It was great to see young people giving a hand. Even little Children were on site at 8am asking if they could help.
The Farmers Market kindly loaned their tents for the event and Martin Makey 0f Ripple farm took time off from his busy life and brought along his team of workers who just happen to be Wye Monarchs and erected the tents.
Bryan and Pat Baker didn’t hesitate when asked for use of their electricity supply. Its all these contributions of help that go to make a community event run smoothly. To mention everyone who contributed would probably blow the capacity on this website! Every effort, every contribution of prizes and donations is truly appreciated by Chairman Nick Williams (pic 5 from top L to R.) and his committee.
The Church cream teas proved very popular. Word got back to the event on the green that Mike Adam’s scones melted in the mouth and Caroline Spencer’s strawberry jam had real zing!
The stalls were none stop busy and if they had had tills they would have been a constantly dinging. (although these days it would be a beep.)
Mike Adams (pic 10 L to R.) did a splendid job as compare making announcements in between the Chillbillie band’s amazing performances. Toes were tapping and people danced including our Vicar the Rev Ravi Holy (pics 8, 9 & 11 L to R). Ravi also took to the mike and gave a great singing performance. A comment overheard was ” Wye’s got a singing vicar, great stuff!” Our Vicar will also be performing at Wye’s Got Talent on Saturday 9th October in the Church. Click on the following link for a clue as to who he will be performing as http://www.facebook.com/ravi.holy
The Parish Council ran a quiz entitled ‘How Well do you Know Your Village?” Something that nobody seemed to know, was that the lane which runs from Churchfield Way to the School is called The Twitter. (Maybe someone could research this as a matter of interest as an article for wyeweb.)
The Gardeners produce stall had appealed for surplus allotment produce to sell on the day. Posters for the appeal were visible on all entrances of both allotments weeks before.
Members of our WI appeared at the cake stall with donations of freshly baked cakes. Stacey Lewis and her Mum who ran the cake stall deserve a special mention in the roll of honours as they spent all day the day before baking, producing more cakes than any organiser could dream of!
The total raised on the day will be published soon, when all the expenses have come in. It can be said that financially the Fayre was very successful.
Nick Williams and the committee would like to thank all those who helped on the day, too many to mention individually. A heartfelt thank you for the tremendous generosity in the response from the good people of Wye to our appeal for gifts and prizes.
You’ve seen the stills above, now wait for the movie from our Editor Errol Roberts whose in the cutting room producing it!
