Wye Village Hall

Published by Editor

Wye is most fortunate at having a beautifully situated village hall and its associated recreation field. The land upon which the village hall stands, along with the recreation field, was gifted to the village in perpetuity by the Sawbridge-Erle-Drax  family. Although originally managed and administered by Wye with Hinxhill Parish Council, since 1977 Wye Village Hall and Recreation Ground Charity (Reg. No. 302899)  has been managed by The Wye Village Hall Management Committee. Originally there were two separate charities – The Wye Public Hall (1938) and The Sports Field (1948). The Management Committee also stands as the Management Trustees of the charity and these two bodies are responsible for the day to day management and the security of the charity. The Parish Council has a role as Custodian Trustees and it is in trust to that body that the security of the land is entrusted.

The Village Hall stands as a physical embodiment of our community and the whole parish should be grateful to the original bequest that secures such a fine and central location for our enjoyment. It was, indeed, a far-sighted and generous act that we are well-minded to conserve and maintain for our own and future generations.

There are two halls – The Large Hall and The Small Hall – that are well-maintained and used by clubs, societies and services that individuals provide to the village at very reasonable rates. We shall provide a list of these on this web-site but anyone interested in joining badminton, short-mat bowls, yoga lessons and other keep-fit  sessions would be advised to look on the Village Hall noticeboard.
