Rubbish again
It may seem to some of our visitors that I have a fixation about rubbish in Wye. To some extent that is true. Nevertheless I find it ironic that residents who claim their village, so beautiful that it is worth devoting years protecting it, should be so casual about the actual appearance of the streets, front gardens, country lanes and woodlands.
Scotton Street is becoming an eyesore with unfinished building sites, littered with windblown detritus and rain-washed mud on associated pavements. Beyond the orchard path, old street cones – yellow ones as well as the red striped versions – vie with plastic bottles, sandwich and sweet wrappers. Some of this is dropped by residents as well as by visitors. There are several places where garden-tidying contractors have deposited the results of their work, wherever it seems convenient to them. Maybe local residents could make sure that contractors employed by them have a relevant licence for rubbish disposal?
I am sure this subject will appear time and again!
I gather from Jack Woodford that the PC’s Environment committee moved the seats outside the parish church for the convenience of locals and visitors. At the same time they hoped that the local meeting point used at various times, particularly by the youngsters of the village, would moderate the accumulated rubbish. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Over the last 36 hours we have seen bread being dropped and spread around the new seat. Have a look at the picture and tell us what you would do about it. Remember next week sees an exhibition for the Parish Plan Stage 1. Is it worth making plans for a beautiful village if it is going to be treated like a tip. Next step Naples? Will they say “See Wye and Die!” because of the dropped and accumulated filth?

Please note my comments on village news…the Bench outside the Church
Occasionally I pick up litter on the footpaths and in the hedgerows when I am out walking, as do others. I put it in a plastic bag, and usually bring it home. I think it would be useful to have a few more public litter bins round the village to encourage others to do the same.
The state of the junction between the High Street and Church Street is deplorable. Jack Woodford’s seating arrangements assume that people appreciate the view and are not concerned in creating mayhem. Is decency a thing of the past or has parenting got too much for some people. If the latter is the case they should think twice before having children.
Our local Newsagent, was very concerned this morning, when I bought the Sunday Newspapers, about the behaviour last night, of several youths, and….young ladies, who were having, an impromtu party on the newly moved Bench’s in the early evening, and left their rubbish, bottles, paper etc etc, to blow around, and just generally create a untidy mess…do any of our readers have information about who these youngsters are…if they even live in Wye, or who their parents are…we are going to confront these young people, and bring it home to them, and their parents…. that the majority of Wye Residents are just not going to tolerate this behaviour any more…if they wish to turn Wye into some run down inner City Sink Estate, then we suggest that, they leave Wye and go to such an area, where their actions will probably be quite normal, and just not noticed. Unfortunately, as I mentioned before on this subject, these people do not read, this website, or the other articles that I put from time to time, in out local magazine…probably knowing the standard of education of some of our young people, they are semi literate, so not capable of picking up on this tiresome and ongoing problem…their language skills just about reach to putting up rude comments in the Youth Shelter, and little more! We moved the Bench’s beyond the War Memorial, in the hope that they would be discouraged from sitting on the Wall, and chucking their rubbish, and bottles into the Churchyard, but unfortunately these mindless idiots, have just moved their activities further along the Wall…again if anybody has information on who these people are…we are not running a vigilate group… we would be pleased to know, so we can endeavour to tackle this problem.
