I do not in principle agree with the concept of the care village as I can see that it will become a community in its own right but could well be isolated from the rest of Wye through location and maybe outlook . The Care villages that I know of have their own suppliers and services and some have their own shops under francises already determined, so I am struggling to see how this will really be of any benifit to Wye. I think we need to encourage young families to come to Wye in order bring new ideas and to enable the village to evolve to face future challenges. If nothing else we need new people to support some of the village organisations because if you look around you at some of the societies they are still being run by the same people as they were some 20 years ago and some of the more active ones can only survive through importing members from other areas.

Following our article about the Golden Jubilee celebrations in our Village. These photographs taken at the Silver Jubilee 1977 have come to light.
The top picture shows a very packed Church Street.
Looking out of the window above his shop is Ken Wakelin.
The picture below shows seated at the top of the table, Charlie Hayward who worked at Wye College as Butler and retired after 50 years service. To Charlie’s left is his wife Bessie.
