wye Farmers Market

Published by Jen Porter under About Wye

Just to let everyone know that the farmers market will be open this Saturday 2nd January; a slightly reduced number of stalls while some of our regulars take a well earned break but we still have meat, game, veg and eggs. The next full market will be the 16th January when it will be business as usual!
Happy New Year

A bright future for Wye’s Young Farmers

Published by Editor under About Wye

A grant from the Kent Downs AONB unit has allowed Wye Community Farm to install a solar panel on the barn roof. This means the barn now has lighting to allow the WCF after school club to carry on throughout the winter months – the photo shows the club members making full use of the lights on Monday evening.

The WCF after school club is free of charge to any children in Wye and Brook wishing to attend, and is funded by the WCF membership. For details of how to become a member and support this work visit the WCF website www.wyecommunityfarm.org.uk

Climate South East Communities Survey

Published by Editor under Environment,Sustainability

Hello Everyone.

The Climate South East Communities group, with help from SEEDA, has put together a survey <http://surveys.polldaddy.com/s/D86D1606437CCDC7/>  intended to capture the action that communities in the South East are taking to address climate change. If we can form a good picture of what is already happening, then we will be able to save people reinventing the wheel, highlight best practice, put people in touch with each other, identify the kinds of support needed by local activists, and highlight sources of support for local climate action.

Action is vital if we are to reduce the severity of future climate change and prepare for changes that will inevitably occur. Many communities are already working to reduce the causes of climate change. Initiatives like Transition Towns, Greening Campaign, and 10:10 have caught the imagination of some communities, while other groups or individuals are carrying out important work that is not being recognised. We also know that some communities are working to adapt to a changed climate, through such projects as community-led flood plans and vulnerability mapping.

We hope that community activists will help us complete this picture by taking part in our survey. To do so, just click here: http://surveys.polldaddy.com/s/D86D1606437CCDC7/. It only takes a few minutes, and results will be treated in confidence.
