Stonegate egg packing station thrived on the site where the Stonegate housing development now stands.
Tucked away out of sight off the junction of Church Street and Bridge Street this busy egg packing company brought employment for both people in the village of Wye and from outside until 1996. It also brought trade to the local shops as the many staff slipped out at tea break and lunchtimes to do their shopping.
Back in the good old days of Wye when there were summer fetes and carnivals everyone joined in even Stonegate Farmers. The picute above shows staff of Stonegates taking part in the Wye Village Carnival during the 1960′s. Their float was a scene from Coronation Streets Rovers Return. They went to a great deal of trouble to make a good job of their float loading a sideboard complete with clock and a piano onto the lorry!
Can anyone remember this event ? Perhaps you know someone in the picture. Maybe you could tell us all more about it. This is Wye living history.

Local Needs Housing
The Parish Council is arranging an extraordinary meeting – hopefully in the second week in September – when an officer from Ashford Borough Council and the Rural Housing Enabler from Action with Communities in Rural Kent will be coming to discuss local needs housing in Wye.
Members of the public will be welcome to attend an extraordinary meeting of the Parish Council
Venue: Methodist Hall
Date: Thursday 11 September, 2008
Time: 19:00
It is gratifying to see that the PC has at last taken up a real challenge that has been evident to anyone who has bothered to speak with Wye residents for several years past. Still, better late than never.
