Terence Kealey, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Buckingham, has written to ABC Planning and Development Department to object to Imperial College’s Withersdane Care Home Application 10/00116/AS. Dr Kealey opposes the proposed plans by Imperial College to convert Withersdane Hall into a care village development and demolish the existing halls of residence and related buildings also on the site. The University of Buckingham, in association with a group of Wye alumni, is planning the creation of an independent university college of liberal arts and agricultural sciences at the Wye College campus, which is an initiative designed to harness the burgeoning independent sector of higher education in the UK. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING AND ACT NOW!
Imperial College has submitted a planning application to build a care village for older people at the College’s Withersdane site. The proposal is to demolish all the halls of residence and other buildings on the site, with the exception of Withersdane Hall, and to build (a) a registered 40 bed care home for the frail elderly with its own gated access onto Coldharbour Lane (b) 44 close care 1 & 2 bed suites, some in Withersdane Hall (c) close care ancillary accommodation in Withersdane Hall (including bar, bistro, private dining, main dining, lounge, kitchens and staff/office area) (d) 88 extra care 1 & 2 bed suites, for people needing more than just sheltered accommodation, but not requiring close care.
