Imperial College’s Case for Abandoning Wye

Firstly thanks to Anne and Delia for their representation of Wye at the Civic Centre hearings of the DPD. Mary Braithwaite has been an assiduous burrower on our behalf and has communicated the following request not only to wyeweb but also to WwHPC and WFG. We are publishing here te case that Imperial College will make to rescind the conditions imposed by the ABC. You will see the conventional (non-blue-sky) thinking that Savills and IC have adopted to find an alternative use for Wye College and also the hurdles that they place on anyone else coming forward with possible educational uses for the site. It is also useful to see for ourselves copies of the brochure that were so hard to come by when the site was being “advertised”. However, better late than never, as the old saying goes. It will be of interest to recognise the financial details that again have been unavailable to any third parties. So we would like to thank Mary for her stalwart efforts both in these matters and the establishment of her bakery – that shows real commitment to the well-being of our community. Clicking on the link will download a copy to your own computer -open with Adobe Reader or similar.

ICL EiP Statement Jun 10 (with appendices)

Dear All,

As you may know I have been trying to obtain information from Imperial (under FOI) concerning its marketing and plans for sites and buildings at Wye. Last year, in spite of several FOI requests, they refused to provide information from Minutes of College Fund Board meetings. In January this year I made a complaint to the Information Commissioner, which has been negotiated in recent weeks. I am not happy with the result, as my specific request – for information on the marketing of and plans for sites and buildings at Wye, for educational or other uses – has fundamentally not been provided. I cannot believe that the Minutes of College Fund Board meetings do not contain relevant information (see Imperial’s message to me below). They have attached a document, which I presume is already in the public domain as it pertains to the DPD. It may be relevant to the current DPD sessions, if you do not already have it. I intend to pursue my request (although the Information Commissioner’s Case Worker gives the impression of accepting Imperial’s argument) – so any advice you can give on what to do next would be very welcome!

Kind regards
Mary (Braithwaite)

PhoenixWyeCollege Launches its prospectus for Wye College (MKII) at University of Buckingham

On Tuesday PhoenixWyeCollege launched its prospectus  for a newly formed university college at Wye. Of course PhoenixWyeCollege ensures that the new institution is called “a Wye college” because Imperial College owns just about everything to do with Wye College – including its brand so anyone with a vision for restoring higher education at Wye must be careful not to infringe the rights of the mighty  Imperial College. (I almost said Almighty). Besides members of the Agricola Club (the association of Wye College alumni) a good handful of Wye residents were also in attendance. For those who wished that they could have been there we show here a video record.

The PhoenixWyeCollege/University of Buckingham Joint Prospectus

Public launch of the PhoenixWyeCollege/University of Buckingham Prospectus

On June 1st PhoenixWyeCollege announced that the joint prospectus for the proposed new Wye College would be launched on June 15th at the University of Buckingham. This prospectus indicates how PhoenixWyeCollege proposes to re-establish Wye College to the role and status it held during the 20th century. It is not proposed to replicate the old model exactly but what is proposed is an innovative academic and business model that will enable the new Wye College to survive as a small independent college without government subsidies. At the same time it will be able to retain the high quality of education and inspiration that enabled its alumni to make great contributions to the global rural economy. Continue Reading »
